Dealer Spotlight: Argyll Motor Sports

Tuesday, May 08, 2007

Rick Fleury is the second generation owner of Argyll Motor Sports in Edmonton, Alberta and proudly states that his family has sold ARGOs to satisfied customers for thirty-five years. That is quite the accomplishment considering that Ontario Drive & Gear Ltd. (the makers of the ARGO) are only ten years older. Indeed, it is no surprise that the Fleury’s tenure with ARGO is one of the most celebrated and longstanding relationships within the company’s history.

Rick Fleury believes it was a small local trade magazine that caught his father’s eye all those years ago. “He must have taken one look at the ARGO and said, Wow, we simply have to get that for our dealership!” Thirty-five years later Rick has carried on the tradition. “Having an ARGO in your dealership is a great way to grow your business,” he says. “You get to sell a different product line which brings in a different clientele and what’s more is you get a good profit line”.

With such a credible rationale it is hard to argue with him. However as Rick notes, becoming a successful ARGO dealer is no piece of cake. “You can’t just put an ARGO on the floor and expect it to sell. While their [ODG’s] new product line is pretty solid with considerable improvements, you have to commit to the product. What you put in is what you get out and if you believe in the product, good things will happen.” Clearly, Rick Fleury is one of those dealers who is not afraid to tell it like it is. An approach that is significantly refreshing in an industry that is teeming with “yes men”.

When asked whether or not he will continue to sell the ARGO product line he answers most assuredly, “Definitely! ARGO has been a great product line for many years and I hope the boys in research and development continue to do innovative work so that old ARGO owners will come back again and again to purchase new models and support this incredible company that has been in business for over 40 years. Now that is a testimony to success in and of itself.” Indeed, wise words from one of the great ARGO dealers.
