Ontario Drive & Gear Ltd., the world’s number one manufacturer of amphibious ATV’s is pleased to announce the release of the NEW 2009 Centaur.
With unmatched power and versatility, the all season, all-terrain Centaur is clearly the right tool for any application. Whether your field is Mining, Utilities, Natural Resource Exploration, Woodlot maintenance or even Search and Rescue operations, the NEW 2009 Centaur has what it takes to maneuver your crew and equipment through the most rugged terrain. Both 945G – Petrol and 954DT Turbo Diesel models are 8 wheel drive, all terrain utility vehicles with liquid-cooled 3 cylinder B&SD Naturally Aspirated Gasoline or turbo diesel engines producing 34 HP at 3600 rpm and 55 ft lbs of torque at 2200 rpm for the gas model and 58 ft lbs of torque at 2200 rpm for the diesel model. Both models also come with mid engine and transmission design, fully enclosed occupant ROPS cab, 10 cubic ft rear cargo area and a 1500 lb payload capacity. The Centaur for Utilities MaintenanceWith a payload of 1500 pounds and a draw bar pull of 2000 pounds the Centaur is an economical, environmentally friendly alternative to larger more expensive tracked vehicles. For cable pulling, tower maintenance, and equipment transportation, nothing is as economical as the Centaur. As Dave Newton, a fleet manager with Carolina Power & Light says, “The biggest advantage of the Centaur is that it does backcountry work that usually only a helicopter could do. I wouldn't trade our Centaur for anything. We tried track-type equipment before but under our extreme conditions out here, my crew literally tore that machine up in two hours. The Centaur has been reliable and goes just about anywhere”. For the new 2009 models ODG has made some ambitious changes to the Centaur to increase space, ease maintenance and generally improve the product fit, finish and performance. New for 2009 is the increased operator cab which conveniently allows for storing more equipment and gear, a split engine cover so operators can access the engine from the centre and also a semi-automatic chain lubrication system to ease maintenance requirements. These enhancements will no doubt maximize the Centaur’s performance and adaptability for the benefit of all users. The Centaur for Land ManagementWhen it comes to environmental surveying, land management or wetland maintenance, nothing compares to the maneuverability of the Centaur. With its low entry price and long life expectancy the Centaur can access work areas at a fraction of the cost of larger tracked vehicles. Moreover, operators have the freedom of movement to maneuver throughout the work area without relying on additional third party support. As Peter Lui, a Ski Club Maintenance Manager says, “The Centaur has no equal when it comes to early season trail preparation and off-season trail maintenance. Furthermore, we also use the Centaur because it's the only vehicle that will work in extreme conditions such as -70 degrees". The Centaur for Search and Rescue OperationsWith comfortable seating for two operators, ample space for equipment and supplies, and low ground pressure to minimize its environmental footprint, the Centaur is the ideal workhorse no matter what your task. Even fire departments and search and rescue teams rely on that extra edge that only the Centaur can provide. The all terrain Centaur is able to transport medical supplies, equipment and first aid personnel to the site of an accident and then evacuate the injured.Currently, the Centaur is being used worldwide in a variety of applications including:Military Defense, Search and Rescue, Firefighting, Mine Detection, Mosquito Abatement, Utilities & Natural Resources, Railway Maintenance and Forestry & Agriculture. This versatile all-season workhorse can also be adapted to suit a remarkably wide range of custom applications.
